Abstract

Kotagede is a historic place that marks the beginning of the Mataram Islamic Kingdom, but there are limited visual media depicting the life of its people. This project aims to create an illustrated book showing the atmosphere of the Mataram Islamic Kingdom era as a way to introduce history. It uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, documentation, and library studies. The data collected uses the 5W+1H method and SWOT analysis to determine verbal and visual concepts. The result is a semi-realistic style illustrated book showcasing market scenes, the Mataram Grand Mosque, springs, and traditional ceremony activities. This book is expected to increase public interest in history through engaging visuals.
