Abstract

Wayang is an intangible cultural heritage of Indonesia recognized by UNESCO, but its existence is starting to be marginalized among the younger generation due to changes in visual tastes and cultural consumption patterns. This study aims to design merchandise in the form of 3D art toys with the theme of Punokawan characters with a contemporary visual approach to strengthen the appeal of traditional culture. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach starting from visual character exploration, art toy trend analysis, to design development through 3D modeling and 3D resin printing techniques. The Punokawan character is represented in a cute, adorable, and communicative chibi style, and is visualized driving a convertible as a symbol of the dynamics of today's generation. The final product is a metallic silver art toy packaged in a modern design, aiming to bridge cultural values with an urban lifestyle. The design results show that the visual reinterpretation of traditional characters into art toys can be an effective, educational, and visually appealing medium for cultural preservation for young audiences.
