Abstract

A lack of public awareness, particularly among the younger generation, of the history of the Istana Kuning in West Kotawaringin has resulted in fewer visitors, despite the fact that the palace functions as a museum and event venue. To address this issue, historical illustrated books have been designed to document and reintroduce the local cultural heritage. This study employed qualitative methods, collecting primary data via interviews with Yellow Palace guides and through direct observation, as well as secondary data from regional archives, literature, and journals. The book design combines text with attractive visuals and illustrations that add aesthetic value and play an important role in describing objects, atmosphere, and emotions, as well as clarifying historical messages. The strategic use of warm and cool color palettes aims to make the illustrations more vivid and depth-filled and to match the depiction of the natural environment. It is hoped that this book will increase awareness and interest in local history among young people aged 10-18, as well as among the general public, foster appreciation for cultural heritage, and serve as an informative reference.
