Abstract
The zine Kopi Tradisional – Kopi Modern serves as a visual communication medium that explores the cultural shift in coffee consumption in Yogyakarta, from traditional practices to modern lifestyles. This zine presents visual content through illustrations, typography, and graphic elements that reflect both local identity and societal transformation. By combining traditional symbols such as batik patterns and classic cloud motifs with a minimalist modern design, the zine captures the dynamic nature of coffee culture as a space for social interaction, identity expression, and urban narrative. More than just a documentation, this zine functions as a form of visual critique on the relationship between local traditions and global influences. The analysis in this study adopts a visual communication approach to reveal how cultural messages are constructed and conveyed through visual forms.
