Abstract

The evolution of cof ee shop culture in Yogyakarta has transformed these establishments into social spaces that reflect the lifestyles and identities of the urban community. This shift has made interior aesthetics a crucial element worthy of documentation as a visual archive. This research aims to design a photography book documenting the spatial aesthetics of 12 cof ee shops along Jalan Tamansiswa, Yogyakarta, utilizing an interior photography approach. The design process follows Robin Landa’s framework, comprising the stages of orientation, analysis, conception, design, and implementation. Data were gathered through observation, photographic documentation, and literature review. The design results reveal that each cof ee shop possesses a distinctive visual character defined by spatial layout, lighting, color, materials, and furniture arrangement. These characteristics are captured through interior photography techniques and presented in a minimalist-concept book featuring visual storytelling and structured sequencing. The resulting photography book serves as both a documentation medium and a visual archive of urban culture, presenting spatial aesthetics in a communicative, artistic, and systematic manner. This design project is expected to serve as a reference for the development of visual archival media within the field of Visual Communication Design.
