Abstract

Discussion on the history of Javanese migration to Lampung reveals a lack of engaging and accessible educational media to convey this important narrative to younger generations. Despite its significance, the topic is often overlooked in formal education and rarely presented through formats that appeal to digital-native audiences. This study addresses that gap by designing a 2D motion graphic animation as an educational tool to present the historical migration of the Javanese people to Lampung, which occurred through four major phases from the colonial era to the present reform era. A qualitative descriptive approach was used, with data collected from historical literature, demographic studies, and visual references. The design process followed three main stages: pre-production, production, and post-production. The visual style was inspired by popular educational YouTube channels such as Kok Bisa?, Oversimplified, and Hello Pedia, with a focus on flat 2D illustrations, simplified narration, and dynamic visuals aimed at viewers aged 14–30. The result of this design shows that motion graphic animation is not only effective in simplifying and visualizing complex historical content but also in increasing awareness and appreciation of local cultural identity. By utilizing platforms like YouTube and Instagram, the project successfully bridges historical content with the media consumption habits of today’s audience. This design can serve as a reference for future researchers and designers interested in creating educational media on local history topics. Its methodical workflow, combination of research and design, and audience-oriented approach demonstrate a practical and adaptable model for similar projects.
