Abstract

The tradition of dreadlocks in the Dieng Highlands is a cultural heritage that has a lot of spiritual and historical value. However, the lack of young people participating and the lack of relevant educational media have caused this tradition to be increasingly marginalized. This research aims to design learning media in the form of board games that raise the tradition of ruwatan as an effort to preserve local culture. The method used in the design process is design thinking, which includes the stages of empathy, problem formulation (5W+1H), ideation, prototyping, and testing. The result of the design is to produce an interactive board game that is packed with Dieng's typical visual elements, ruwatan ritual narrative, and strategy and cultural mission-based game mechanics. Ruwatan board games are expected to be an alternative educational medium that is attractive to the younger generation, as well as fostering a sense of belonging to local culture.
