Abstract

Diskorina played a significant role in documenting the national music scene during the Old Order era. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a visual study approach, this research examines key graphic design elements such as illustration, typography, color, and layout. The findings reveal that each cover exhibits a distinct visual character, influenced by international graphic design trends such as Pop Art, Op Art, and Swiss Style. The typography appears free-form, decorative, and unconstrained by conventional readability. Illustrations function as visual identifiers representing each magazine section, while vibrant and contrasting color schemes reflect the spirit of youth culture at the time. The layouts range from symmetrical to asymmetrical compositions, enriching the visual structure of the covers. This study concludes that Diskorina magazine covers served not only as visual communication media but also as cultural artifacts that reflect the social and aesthetic dynamics of 1960s Indonesia.
