Abstract

The short film WIRA was created as a creative medium to introduce and promote the values of the traditional Indonesian martial art PERSINAS ASAD (Ampuh, Sehat, Aman, Damai), in response to rising youth street violence in Yogyakarta, such as klithih. Unlike the common perception of martial arts as mere self-defense, WIRA presents ASAD as a way of life rooted in moral, cultural, and spiritual values. The 10-15 minute film adopts a semi-documentary format that blends fictional storytelling with documentary-style elements. The narrative is built upon insights from interviews with Mas Suryo, a key figure in ASAD Yogyakarta, whose perspective shaped the film's philosophical and historical depth. The production process included dynamic cinematography and fight choreography to represent ASAD movements authentically. Post-production used Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Al-generated visuals for news scenes, with sound design sourced from Epidemic Sound. Beyond action sequences, the film portrays the protagonist's moral journey in facing violence, highlighting the internal struggle between aggression and peace. WIRA stands as the first short film to narratively explore ASAD, aiming to inspire youth to see martial arts not as violence, but as a path to discipline and peace. The film will be distributed through ASAD's Instagram and YouTube channels.
