Abstract

This design project aims to promote and preserve Tarian Caci, a traditional dance from Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, which, despite its rich cultural and spiritual significance as a sacred war ritual symbolizing brotherhood, remains largely unrecognized nationally. To address this, a profile video titled "Caci: Heritage from the Land of Manggarai" was produced using qualitative design methods and a structured audio-visual production methodology, including in-depth interviews, field observations, and the application of specific cinematic techniques such as close-ups, slow motion, and natural lighting. This 5:22 minute video effectively showcases the movements, costumes, traditional instruments, and deep-rooted philosophy behind Tarian Caci, supported by engaging narration, authentic ambient sound, and layered traditional music in different sequences. The use of a semi-documentary narrative approach was chosen to allow the storytelling to remain informative yet emotionally resonant. This video serves as a crucial medium to introduce Tarian Caci as an integral part of Manggarai's cultural identity, to enhance national awareness-especially among younger audiences and to contribute meaningfully to the preservation, revitalization, and wider recognition of this invaluable cultural heritage.
