Abstract
This research details the creation of "Nyadran Segoro Desa Sidoharjo," an illustrated book aimed at educating children aged 10-12 about the Nyadran Segoro tradition in Sidoharjo Village, Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta. A key problem identified through observations and interviews was that many local children lacked understanding of this important ancestral ceremony, and no suitable educational resources existed. The book's development followed the Design Thinking methodology, covering Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test stages. The initial Empathize phase included interviews with community elders, surveys with target children, and archival research. It features vibrant, cartoon-style illustrations, appealing to children, portraying characters Sega and Karin learning the ceremony's meaning. Simple sentences (2-10 words) are used, alongside bright, earth-tone, and pastel colors, and specific typography (Cordon/Arial Rounded). A single-page layout enhances focus. Prototype development involved digital sketching, detailed coloring, and layout. Trials confirmed the book's success in educating and improving children's understanding of the Nyadran ceremony. This project successfully fulfills the need for accessible cultural education, providing a foundation for potential future cultural book series.
